Hi there.. recently I created a new site and named it Sleek Beauty Column. You can view it at http://www.sleekpage.com/beautycolumn.
It started of as an idea to allow people to contribute beauty tips and advice. Somehow, I believe everyone has a way or two to keep themselves beautiful, so it must be a good topic to begin with.
Once I completed the site, I quickly launched it by placing a couple of links to the site, hoping to generate some targeted traffic.
So here are three questions for MindValley Labs folks. Hopefully you can shed some light or share some thoughts. 1. Do you think people in general will be willing to contribute beauty related content on the site? So far the response is nil. 2. How should I get some traffic which will lead them to sign up and contribute content? 3. Which sort of people should I market the site to?
Would appreciate any postive or negative feedback. Thanks.
You know, you broke the first major rule of marketing... You should always "find a hungry market, and then feed them what they want". Put another way: "find a stampede of traffic and stand in its way".
How could you complete the site already without knowing who your target market is?
Do you mean by the above comment that a site/forum should already have the articles and information there ready to entice the hungry market?? If so, once you have this, how do you draw them in other than article submissions?
No, I meant that you don't even spend the time writing articles if you don't know who you are writing for, or if anyone is interested in the topic. If you go to Google or Yahoo and look at search trends and buzz, you find out what people want and if there are a lot of them looking for it. When you find a popular item or topic, THEN you can build a marketing strategy around it by determining where to get traffic and how to monetize it. Only then do you actually write content for it, although I left out where you do some survey-type of research to see what people want within that topic. If you want the market to write your content, you will have to attract them there with something initially. People don't come to empty sites.
