WIth SEO in mind, what's better, containing all the content on one page or spreading it out over several pages? Does Google like long pages which could contain lots of keywords or would having lots of pages cross linking to each other make the site seem bigger and help to increase PageRank? It would also allow the use of the H1 header on each page, rather than just once per page (as i hear is the recommendation).

What you probably need are "silos." You can read some good info about silos on bruceclay.com. Silos are basically where you do 5-10 pages of content for one topic and link them all together. This way the search engine are more clear about the topic of your site. Whereas if you have just one page, even if its long, that doesnt really show the search engine that you are a subject matter expect. Hope this helps and I hope more people start posting on this forum.

Good, that's what I was hoping to hear. I'm actually hoping to have one very big site with lots of areas dedicated to different things. I hope this will work too.
I hope more people post on here too. I'll try to keep it up.

If you make the page too long, you dilute the keywords. But don't make it too short either!

All points are very true. These days, if you want to rank high for a keyword phrase, you also must concentrate on building pages with related keyword phrases. That will help to lift that one site up over time. I would also recommend to stick with fewer vs. more domains, especially if it all for one general topic area. Why, you want to get one site that becomes an authority site for that domain. If not, then you can go with multiple domains.
