My Big Question is....For a newbie on a limited budget, if I am satisfied with the way my site looks, what is the single most effective marketing tool I can use just starting out? > >From your tactics it would seem a PPC campaign through > just Yahoo might be a good start without spending a fortune.
Good question. How to start getting traffic is a big topic. I would say that PPC is definitely a great way to get started BUT it is also most likely going to be a very hard way to start making money right away.
Why?
- You might be satisfied with how your site looks but it does not matter! What matters is whether your site sells and converts at a good enough rate so that you can earn a positive return on investment on your Google ads. The chances are that your site will need lots of tweaking and optimization before it becomes a cash machine. Most new sites do.
- So, by all means get started with PPC, it is the fastest way to start gaining traffic which you can then use to start improving your site by testing different elements, etc.
While PPC is the fastest way to get started, if you don't know what you are doing you can quickly lose your shirt and get very frustrated. That's why our clients pay us $5,000 just to help them get started on Google AdWords. It is a competitive place but if you want to learn how to do it, you can. It just takes a little bit of time and you will need to read up on a few books such as this one: http://www.adwordssystemexposed.com/
Outside of PPC everything else will take time:
- SEO: That is a long-term strategy. Can work brilliantly but don't expect any returns in the first year - Blog Marketing: Same thing, wonderful for the long-term but not good for the short term - Affiliate Marketing: You first need a site that sells and you get a site that sells by testing and tweaking it from PPC traffic first
