Please take a look at our website at www.doreo.com. We get a fair amount of traffic, but the conversion ratio is below what we're hoping for. Our goal, of course, is to get people to sign up for hosting.
Some thoughts that we have so far:
- We're re-doing the right hand side. We're going to be putting more emphasis on our money back offer (going to be revising that) and other related "freebies" to add more "value" to the offer. - We're thinking about adding some testimonials on the actual hosting page.
My first thought was "what are they selling?". I couldn't immediately tell it was web hosting even though you told me before I went to look. My eye ignored the top graphic that says "Doreo Hosting". The first thing I saw was some features --- not benefits --- and they aren't even very good features. I mean come on, is "Quality Dell hardware" the best you got? So you put that first? The part that actually says what you are providing is smaller and farther down the page. I think you need to define your target market better. If it's people with no skills, push the site builder. If it's people who want multiple domains in one account, push reseller. Right now it's diluted.
Thank you very much for the feedback. I'm hoping you can help me a bit more here. What benefits would you be looking for in a web host? We've found that most potential clients look for features (xx disk space and yy bandwidth) but I'm all ears for a bit more detail.
You have to target your market, not me.... But if I was looking for a host, I might want one that * saved me time, * saved me money, * relieved me of worry about down-time, * makes it easy to do my site * relieved me of worry about backups etc. Can you see how these are tied into emotional benefits for the customer? And you can still mention xx disk space and yy bandwidth when showing how your features supply these benefits. If you ask a customer what he's looking for, he'll *always* answer in terms of features. But underneath, it's really all about benefits. Read Glenn and Sharon Livingston's research about that here http://www.tlgonline.com/art/8.shtml
Yes, I realize that you may not be our exact target market, but it's the only feedback we're getting on this forum, so I'll take it :-) I've been working on tweaking / word smithing the index page. What I have so far is here: www.doreo.com/index-new.php. Hopefully the main bullet points are now more "benefits" vs "features". The 1st bullet will prob. go away and be replaced (not sure of the exact order) with something related to reliability/uptime (we average the high 99.95+).
The right hand side is being redesigned ATM. That will have more information (graphical) on our new 90 day money back guarantee as well as some "info blocks" on the spam filtering and backups. The site builder will be shrunk down so the space is evenly broken between the 4 main "why choose Doreo" points.
The newer version DOES look better (more appealing). One thing that helped was to clear out some of the clutter at the bottom. You should have a clear call to action, not 15 of them! I was just reading awhile ago: "A confused mind always answers No". You say you are redesigning the right hand side... One thing that looks confusing is the main part says "Free Site Builder", but there is a link for "3 day free trial". That's confilicting. When I saw the 3 day trial link on the old version, I wondered why anyone would want to try a web site for 3 days. It just seems odd; maybe it's the wording.
In my previous post, I said "You have to target your market, not me". I meant that you have to define the target, don't let me define it for you. I didn't mean that I was not in your target...I might be! What is the target? I should be able to tell by your web page...
Well the right side was confusing because I had not started on it :-) Here is the latest revision: http://www.doreo.com/index-new2.php The right side is currently just a place-holder for 3 items (Guarantee, Spam Filter, Backups). It has not been styles (css style) at all, I'm just working on layout at the moment.
Tomorrow I'll be working on the actual CSS and real text for the three items on the right hand side. My current through is that there will be 3 different (slightly) colors of green going down the right hand side. The darkest will be at the top (the green it is now) then a slightly lighter green for the Spam Filter part and finally a slightly lighter green again for the backup part. I'm hoping this will visually segment the right side so it's easier to read, more "visually" broken up etc. It's just a tad hard to explain until I do it.
Our target market (though it may be pretty broad) is anyone looking for reliable hosting. We do not position ourselves at "bargain" host and we do not offer tons of disk/bandwidth
If your target is "people looking for reliable hosting", wouldn't you emphasize the backups and uptime instead of guarantee and spam filter? If you're not doing "bargain", why do you have $6.99 right there in the middle of the page?
Testing is an excellent idea. I just found out yesterday that Google supports free multivariate testing for you. It's faster than split testing. http://services.google.com/websiteoptimizer/
