If you have several different landing pages hosted on the same domain, each targeting different keywords then what is the best strategy for obtaining backlinks to get good rankings for each of these pages?
What confuses me is which pages should I try and gets links to point to - the home page or each of the landing pages?
Bearing in mind that page rank is usually passed down through your pages (eg if your home page is PR5 then pages on the next level with usually be 4) it would seem that you should concentrate on getting many quality backlinks to your homepage so the benefit of this is filtered down to the rest of your pages.
However you need to also consider that anchor text is imporant and has to be relevant. therefore if you think about it that way then it would make more sense to get links with relevant anchor text to point to each of the inner pages separately. But does this not divide the benefit, spreading and lessening the number of links to the homepage? Also as you add more pages to your site with new keywords, then this immediately multiplies the number of link requests you have to obtain and would quickly become unmanageable.
1) First concentrate on building the page rank of your main site (i.e. www.yoursite.com).
2) The separate landing pages that you are building, if you are just using them for PPC then you don't even need to focus on SEO
3) If you are trying to optimize landing pages for SEO, then link to them from the main page and here and there try to get other links pointing to those landing pages as well. A lot of times starting a blog and writing blog posts that link to these pages can help. However, the content of the blog has to be good so that your blog gains page rank as well. Otherwise the links don't count very much.
